歴史

ドニゴール州はかつて強大なクラン・ダーレイ（英語ではオドネル王朝として知られる）の本拠地であった。 1600年頃まで、オドネル家はアイルランドで最も裕福で強力な先住民の支配家族の一つであった。 アルスターでは、現在のタイロン州のオニール一族が最も強力であった。 オドネル家は13世紀初頭から17世紀初頭まで、アルスターで2番目に強力な氏族または支配者一族であった。 1607年9月、Rathmullan付近からの伯爵の逃亡により、当時新たに創設されたドニゴール郡で、オドネル王族または首長の権力はついに消滅した。 新しいドネガル郡の完全な支配は、1607年9月の伯爵たちの逃亡の後に達成された。 デリー市となった場所は、1610年まで公式にドニゴール郡の一部だった。ドニゴール郡は、1840年代後半のアイルランド大飢饉の際、アルスターで最も被害を受けた地域の一つであった。 この大飢饉により、郡内の広大な地域が壊滅的な打撃を受け、多くの地域が永久に過疎化した。 1920年代初頭のアイルランド分割は、ドニゴール州に直接大きな影響を与えました。 デリーは、西タイロン州とともに、北アイルランドと呼ばれる新しい別の管轄区域になりました。 分割はまた、ドニゴール郡が他の地域からほぼ完全に切り離されたことを意味し、この地域はアイルランド自由国と呼ばれ、1949年4月にアイルランド共和国となりました。 政治家のエディ・フラートン参事官は、ブンクラナの自宅でアルスター防衛協会に暗殺されました。 この事件は、同郡の経済的、社会的困難にさらに拍車をかけました。 しかし、1998年4月の「聖金曜日協定」以降、経済的・行政的統合が進み、同郡にとって有益なものとなっています。ドニゴール州の人口は約158,755人である。
