Francis Scott Key and “The Star-Spangled Banner”
弁護士だったキーは1814年9月14日、イギリス軍がメリーランド州のマクヘンリー要塞を攻撃するのを見て歌詞を書きました。 キーの言葉は、1814年に “Defence of Fort McHenry” というタイトルで、初めて広辞苑に掲載された。 その後、ボルチモア地域の新聞に印刷され、”To Anacreon in Heaven “の曲に合わせて歌われるようにとの指示があった。
